Diving supplies is a catch-all category. It can include vital things, such as air tanks and a working supply system. But it can also include things that won’t be used on most dives, but can be handy in certain situations. These things include diving lights, or diving computers. While not vital for your average dive, they can make certain things much simpler.
Some diving supplies require more than just a presence check. In the previous paragraph, simply noting that you had your air tank would not have stopped you from having a useless one out on the boat with you. Similarly, you want to check things like your supply line and face mask for structural integrity. A leaking air line is disastrous underwater, and a leaking face mask only slightly less so.
When you are preparing to go for a dive, it’s useful to keep a checklist of the necessary diving supplies before you head out. This will save you from the mistake of piloting a boat hours out into the ocean only to find out you have left your face mask in the car. Or, in a worse scenario, you drive three hours to the seaboard, pilot out another hour and a half to your diving destination, only to discover that your air tank is empty.
