A scuba drysuit is the best way to maintain one’s body temperature, even in the coldest water. However, more and more divers are finding drysuits are the best option regardless of the water temperature. The less body lost the better and more comfortable the dive.
A scuba drysuit is essential in water that is below 55 degrees. When the body becomes cold, it can gradually shut down. This can cause cramping and other physical problems that can be hazardous during a dive.
When buying a scuba drysuit, make sure that all the seals are properly sized for your body. Improperly sealed neck and wrist areas can allow cold water to work its way inside the suit, eliminating any protection the suit might provide. Most dive shops will be able to properly fit your drysuit.
