A scuba regulator is designed to deliver air from the cylinder at the right pressure. This means that it is a type of pressure regulator. The pressure which it provides can be described as "ambient." It may come from just one cylinder or more.
The gas which is used in a scuba regulator can be many different things. It may simply be air, or it may also be a specially blended type. These special blends aid in the prevention of decompression sickness.
A gas pressure scuba regulator will have one or more valves in a series. This provides gas from the cylinder in a controlled way. By doing it bit by bit, it allows the air pressure to be lowered at each stage. When scuba equipment naturally manages such adjustments, it poses less requirements on the diver.
